The MIGA project aims at realizing of a novel infrastructure to study applied and fundamental aspects of gravity using matter wave and optical interferometry techniques in a single instrument. This infrastructure will allow for a deeper understanding of the Earth’s gravity field and serve as a test bench for future low frequency (0.1-10 Hz) terrestrial gravitational wave detectors based on atom interferometry. A milestone of the project was achieved in June 2015 by the successful delivery to LP2N of the first cold atom source unit developed at SYRTE.
