Venue of the Journées 2004
The scientific sessions will be held in Henri-Mineur Amphitheatre at Institut
d'Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) and in meeting rooms of Paris
Observatory.
The registration desk will be in the Hall of the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris and
will be open on Monday 20 September from 8.15 am.

Visits in Paris before or after the Journées
Before the Journées:
To promote the historical and cultural heritage, there is, on 18 and 19 September 2004,
the possibility, in the framework of the Cultural, heritage days
(Journées du Patrimoine)
(organized each year in France, and now in Europe) of visiting, free of charge
(but generally with queues), many state Buildings.
In this cultural framework, Paris Observatory will be opened on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September
from 13 h to 18 h (entrance at 61, avenue de l'Observatoire, 75014 Paris) with
public visits and
conferences in French.
A few guided visits are also organized at Meudon Observatory.
Note that there will be the "Paris Techno Parade"
on Saturday 18 September (intended to be a popular street event promoting electronic music).
The parade will be from Montpanasse (12 h) to Bastille (20 h) through rue de Rennes, pont de Sully
and bd Henri IV). Traffic jams can be expected in this district of Paris.

Scientific presentations during the Journées
The language of the meeting will be mainly English and occasionally French.
There will be five scientific sessions including oral (and invited) presentations
and long discussions (see the scientific
Programme for more details).
There will be two poster sessions (see the scientific
Programme):
Poster session 1 on Monday 20 September from 17h 30 to 18h 30 and
Poster session 2 on Tuesday 21 September from 14h 00 to 15h 00.
In addition, there will be the "kickoff meeting" for the Project "Descartes-Nutation" and
a special session for very short oral presentations of the posters (2 min per poster
with a maximum of 2 transparencies) on Monday 21 September at the end of the
afternoon session.
- Oral presentations: The duration of the talks is 20 min (including discussion)
for invited talks and 10-15 min (including discussion) for the oral communications.
Note that due to the large time that is planned for discussion, the speakers
are requested to be very strict with the time that is allocated for their
presentations. In the amphitheatre where the sessions will take place, there will be
available an overhead projector, a video-projector and a PC for the Power
Point Presentations (the version of the software being 2003).
The Power Point Presentations can be posted by ftp in order to be available at
the time of the Journées in the laptop of the conference room;
the username for the account and the password will be given by e-mail on
request.
- Posters: The posters of Poster session 1 will be posted in a meeting room
of the IAP building (where the oral sessions of the Journées take place) and the posters
of Poster session 2 will be posted in the meeting room of Building B
at Observatoire de Paris (near the canteen of the Observatory). Poster sessions 1 and 2 will be held in
these repective rooms. It will be possible to post the posters on Monday 20 September
from 8 h 30 am and to have them posted during the whole duration of the Journées.
During the poster sessions the authors are asked to be with their posters.
The dimensions of the posters are 1 m x 1 m.
Welcome drink and Buffet
There will be a
Welcome drink on Monday 20 September at 18h 30 in Building B and
a
buffet on Tuesday 21 September at 19h 30 in Salle Cassini in the historical building
of Paris Observatory. Both are free of charge for the registered participants.
For accompanying persons, extra buffet tickets will be available at price of
25 Euros.
A visit of Mechain exhibition that will take place at Paris Observatory at the time of
the Journées du Patrimoine and Mechain's colloquim
(see below), will be organized (free of charge) for the participants
in the Journées on Tuesday 21 September (18h 45- 19h 15) just before the buffet. Registration
will be required at the registration desk
Recreation or touristic activities
The afternoon of Wednesday 22 September will be for recreation or touristic
activities: see some
proposals from Jean Souchay.
Note also the venue at Paris Observatory of
Mechain colloquium
(from 22 September afternoon to 23 September evening). Note that the sessions of Mechain colloquium will
be in French.
The organization of small scientific meetings is also possible in meeting rooms
of Paris Observatory on request.
Lunches at the canteen of Paris Observatory
It will be possible to have lunch at the canteen of
Paris Observatory for the three days of the meeting at the price of 9 Euros per
lunch.
Registration fee
The registration fee is 50 Euros. This amount includes
material, coffee breaks, the buffet and a copy of the Proceedings.
Proceedings of the Journées 2004
The Proceedings of the Journées 2004 will be published, as with previous ones,
from files provided by the authors using norms that will be provided to the authors
(updated norms with respect to the norms usually used for the Journées Proceedings).
