Venue of the Journées 2007
The Journées 2007 will be organized at Observatoire de Meudon, which is one section of Paris Observatory, the site of which is located in Meudon (see a Map of Meudon and Access to Meudon Observatory).

The entrance of the Observatory is at the gate of the "Terrases de l'Observatoire", Place Jules Janssen, at the top of the Avenue du Château, in Meudon. The scientific sessions will be held in the Amphitheatre of the LAM Building (Bat No 18 on the Local Map) of Observatoire de Meudon and in meeting rooms located in the same campus.

The registration desk will be in the Hall of the LAM Building and will be open on Monday 17 September from 8.30 am.

Lunch
The Journees 2007 participants can take lunch at the canteen of Observatoire de Meudon, which is at a 10 min walk in the campus from the Journees meeting place (see the Local Map: building 18 is for the meeting place and building 4 for the canteen). The fare for the 3 lunch tickets is included in the registration fee.
If coming directly from the airport, see the maps from Roissy CDG airport or Orly airport.
The different ways to come from Paris to Meudon Observatory are described below (More details can be found on Trains SNCF Ile de France , or Metro and RER lines map):
A) By car, there are two possible routes to drive to Meudon (then, follow the Map of Meudon):
1. Take the périphérique, exit at Quai d'Issy, then go towards Issy les Moulineaux, Sèvres and finally Meudon.
2. Take N 118, from the Pont de Sèvres, going towards Chartres Orléans, exiting at Meudon Sèvres and then going towards Meudon.
B) By suburban train, there are two possibilities:
1. At Paris-Montparnasse railway station, take the trains (French railways - SNCF) going to "Sèvres Rive Gauche" (every 15 min).
- Make sure the train stops at the "Meudon" or "Bellevue" stations (see below).
- Get out at the 3rd station: Meudon (after Vanves-Malakoff and Clamart stations). Outside the station, turn to the right (rue Claude Dalseme); after 200 m turn again to the right, then straight ahead up to the top of the hill along avenue Le Corbeiller and then avenue Jacqueminot.
- Or, get out at the 4th station: Meudon-Bellevue. Outside station, turn left on the avenue du Château: the entrance of the Observatory is on the top of the hill.

2. The RER ligne C (suburban train system): Take the train going in the direction of Versailles Rive Gauche and get out at the Meudon-Val Fleury station. Follow the direction of Meudon. About a 15 to 20 minutes walk (climbing!).
C) By metro + bus:
Take Line 12 (Porte de la Chapelle-Mairie d'Issy).
At the terminus "Mairie d'Issy", take the bus 169 direction "Pont de Sèvres", stop at the "Place Rabelais" or "Eglise de Meudon".
Special bus service for participants
During the Journées 2007, a special bus service will be available to take the participants from "Bellevue" train station to Meudon Observatory.
In the morning, the bus will take the Journees 2007 participants at the exit of "Bellevue" train station at 8:17 (the time of arrival of the train leaving Paris-Montparnasse railway station at 8:05 going to "Sèvres Rive Gauche") and bring them to Meudon Observatory. See the time table for the omnibus trains from Paris-Montparnasse railway station to Bellevue train station during the week of the Journées 2007.

Specific information
For those attending the two meetings (Journées 2007 and IERS Workshop) and wishing to stay at the same hotel during the all week (17-21 September), there are two options:

* Stay at a hotel in the Montparnasse area.
Take a suburban train (towards "Sèvres Rive Gauche") to "Bellevue" station (4th train stop from Montparnasse station),

then, at "Bellevue" station:
- to go to Meudon Observatory, take the free shuttle provided for the Journées 2007 (see above);
- to go to the BIPM, take bus N° 169 (towards Pont de Sèvres) up to stop Parc de Saint Cloud, then walk into the Parc de St Cloud to the BIPM.

* Stay at the Novotel in Sèvres.
- to go to Meudon Observatory, take bus N° 169 (towards Balard), stop at Meudon Bellevue, take the free shuttle (see above);
- to go to the BIPM, walk into the Parc de St Cloud to the BIPM.

Visit to the Palace of Versailles
Note that Meudon or Sèvres are not far from the Palace of Versailles.
There are several possibilities to go to the Palace of Versailles with public transportation:

1) taking the RER C from Paris to the final stop "Versailles-RG" ("Chateau de Versailles"); that RER can be taken in Meudon (Val Fleury station)
2) taking the train from Montparnasse to Versailles-Chantiers
3) taking the bus No 171 from Sèvres to Chateau de Versailles

It is possible to get an SNCF ticket including the transportation by train and the visit of the Palace for 25 Euros.

If a sufficient number of Journées 2007 participants are interested, a visit can be orgnaized by the LOC (at a fare of 25 Euros) either on Saturday 22 September, or Sunday 23 September. If you are interested, please register here
Special events during the weekend before the Journées 2007
European Heritage days
To promote the historical and cultural heritage, there is on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September 2007, the possibility, in the framework of the European Heritage days Journées du Patrimoine 2007 (organized each year in France, and now in Europe) of visiting, free of charge (but generally with queues), many state Buildings.
In this cultural framework, Paris Observatory will be opened on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September from 13 h to 18 h (entrance at 61 avenue de l'Observatoire, 75014 Paris), with visits and lectures (in French).

Paris Techno Parade 2007
There will be the "Paris Techno Parade 2007" on Saturday 15 September (intended to be a popular street event promoting electronic music). The parade will be from Bastille (12 h), to Chatelet (15 h), Strasbourg St Denis (16 h), Republique (17 h) and Bastille (18 h - 20 h). Traffic jams can be expected in this district of Paris.
