The mission of the Institut Universitaire de France is to promote the development of high-level research in universities and to strengthen interdisciplinarity. Among the 110 laureates of the IUF 2020 promotion, Remi Geiger, associate professor at Sorbonne University and assigned to SYRTE, was distinguished for the exceptional quality of his research on cold atom inertial sensors.
Cold atom inertial sensors represent a breakthrough technology for several applications. This project aims to reinforce French excellence in this field by developing a multi-axis sensor to address three scientific issues: to meet the sensitivity requirements of rotational seismology; to perform a test of the Sagnac effect for matter waves with an unprecedented level of accuracy; to conduct the metrological developments necessary for future gravitational wave detectors based on atomic interferometry.
Award-winning scientists such as Remi Geiger are appointed Junior and Senior members at the Institut Universitaire de France as of October 1, 2020.
